The thesis was presented officially on December 19th, 2001, as a master's thesis in Computational Lingustics within the framework of the Language Engineering Program (Språkteknologiprogrammet). It was given a Well Pass due to its high methodological standard. The topic of the thesis is in the cross-field of Natural Language Processing, Vision, and Cognition, and as such it is well situated in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The work underlying the thesis was carried out at Ericsson Research. Gustav Öquist is since January 1st, 2002, a Ph.D. student in Computational Linguistics at the Department of Linguistics, Uppsala University. The master's thesis is the basis of his Ph.D. research in which issues concerning readability, text comprehension, cognition and vision will be further explored.
